Plant Ontology of Cell Types: A cell type uniformity for plant biology

Introduction

POCT is a curated classification system for plant cell types, featuring tissue-oriented and cell-type-oriented trees to enable standardized, hierarchical exploration of cellular diversity across species and developmental contexts. By providing a standardized framework, POCT promotes data integration from single-cell omics, and supports cross-study comparisons of cellular function and regulatory mechanisms. Future efforts will enhance POCT by incorporating protein, metabolic, and environmental response data, alongside time-series omics for dynamic modeling of differentiation trajectories, using advanced computational tools. We invite the plant science community to join the POCT Consortium to further enrich this foundational resource for plant biology.
