23 May 2001 - Gary Williams - changed the overlap so that thestart of a new sequence section is one more than the split-point, theend is the split-point plus the overlap. e.g. splitting at 10000 withan overlap of 100 gives: 1-10100, 10001-20100, etc.
Description SPLITTER application details page

Split a sequence into (overlapping) smaller sequences

This simple editing program allows you to split a long sequenceinto smaller, optionally overlapping, subsequences.

There should be little requirement to split sequences into smallersub-sequences in EMBOSS, but there may be circumstances where memoryusage becomes restrictive when dealing with truly large sequences. Inthis case, memory usage may be reduced by repeating the analysis severaltimes on split sub-sequences.

If you need to split a large sequence into smaller subsequences so thata non-EMBOSS program can analyse the smaller sequence, it may also beuseful to write the sub-sequences into separate files instead of thedefault EMBOSS behaviour of concatenating them together into one file.

To write the output sequences to separate files, use the command-lineswitch '-ossingle'.
